HISPANO VEMA is a leading manufacturer of CBRN (Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) decontamination solutions, mobile water treatment systems and camps and hospitals. A customized solution that provides the best products for the needs of each client, focused on the rapid implementation, effectiveness and efficiency of field operations.

How Hispano Vema implemented 3D Printing?
One of the current products are the “decontamination lances”, which until now had a basic and merely functional aspect. The challenge of its redesign is to make them more comfortable, more functional and aesthetically attractive.
These “lances” provide capacity for three-phase decontamination: prewash, decontamination and cleared up. They have 3 output lines: foam, high pressure flat flow and high pressure solid flow and can be used with chemical, biological or radiological decontamination agents.
Our Dynamical 3D printinting service has made several iterations in the design until we find the finishes and improvements required by the client, moving from a basic design to a much more attractive one.

THE CHALLENGE:
- Improve the ergonomics of the initial design
- Ad dan additional handle to the lance
- Short runs
- Chemical and mechanical resistance
THE SOLUTION:
- 5 different parts printed with Carbon® DLSTM technology
- Improved ergonomics
- Textures to improve grip and aesthetics
- EPX material for chemical resistance
Print Material
We chose EPX82 because it is chemically very resistant, ideal quality for an application like this, in which chemical agents and pressurized water come into contact with the printed parts.
EPX82, is a material developed exclusively by Carbon® to fulfill the requirements and certifications of a sector as demanding as the automotive industry. It is a high-strength engineering material with excellent long-term durability and mechanical properties comparable to glass filled thermoplastics.

Texturing parts
One of the solutions that we apply to these pieces has been the texturing of the pieces. Thanks to Carbon® software we have improved the grip of the handles with a rough texture.
The application of textures is a semi-automatic process that requires a previous analysis by designers to study its feasibility, and that gives an unbeatable finish for final products like this.
Advantages of Carbon® DLSTM technology in the production environment
When facing redesigns such as this one in which several parts are modified, the manufacturing method to be used must be taken into account. Depending on the variety and quantity of parts, additive manufacturing saves costs by not needing a mold to make short and medium runs.
Another advantage is the possibility of modifyng the design from time to time without the cost of modifying molds. With this method you can perform iterations in the design at no additional cost.
